Generations of Exceptional Craftsmanship
Originally from a rural coffee region in Costa Rica, the Valverde’s source of inspiration is the incredibly biodiverse forests that surround them. They work with a wide variety of woods, to create unique pieces that showcase the Pura Vida spirit wherever you find yourself.
The tradition of stunning high-quality craftsmanship has been passed down through three generations of Valverde men. Grandfather Valverde started building furniture purely for function, with limited access to commerce in their rural town. Filiberto Martín Valverde turned his craft into a business, specializing in kitchen cabinets, entertainment centers, and raw edge tables (before they were cool).
Martín Valverde remembers spending every afternoon in his father’s shop across from his elementary school, helping him sand and glue the most detailed pieces, returning home covered in sawdust. His sister remembers him as a woodworker at 13 years old: She says “I showed him a jewelry box I wanted to buy for our mother for Mother’s day. He showed up the next day with a jewlery box he had made in the shop, with the words “Te Quiero Mucho” inscribed on the lid, and it was so much prettier than the store-bought one!”
He learned his impeccable attention to detail and finish work from his father, and has refined the family craft to create contemporary functional and decorative pieces that will stand out in your home. His designs reflect his love for Costa Rica’s most untouched places, and his passion for exploring his beloved country by motorcycle. He has brought these skills to Vermont, and is eager to create new designs and broaden his knowledge of American Hardwoods.
